This year, an alarming number of California sea lion pups faced challenges getting the nutrition they need on their own after being weaned from their mothers. CIMWI also had elevated numbers of sea lions suffering from domoic acid toxicity, a neurotoxin that targets the brain damaging memory and special navigation. The demand for the nonprofit rescue and rehabilitation services was at a record-breaking high this year.
