Nurses rally for better working conditions On Wednesday, July 31, about 150 nurses rallied outside of St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard to demand more nurses and better security. Times Media buys VC Reporter

by Kimberly Rivers At the end of the work day on Wednesday, July 31, staff of the Ventura County Reporter were notified that the paper, along with most of the assets of parent company Southland Publishing, had been sold to Times Media Group (TMG), a Tempe, Arizona-based company. FEELING SQUIDDISH | Local market squid fisheries impacted by warm blob in Pacific

By Kimberly Rivers The squid landing docks at the Port of Hueneme are quiet. In recent years the summer months were busy with dozens of boats coming and going, offloading millions of pounds of California Market Squid into tanks for export to Asia for processing and then returning to be served up for fried calamari or other dishes. Two perish in plane crash in Camarillo | Victims identified.

The Ventura County Fire Department confirms that at approximately 1:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, August 7, a single-engine private aircraft crashed in Camarillo. Two on board died in the crash.  Cause of crash is unknown, pending investigation. Names of the deceased have not yet been released. Coroner is not yet onsite.
