OPEN HOUSE FOR AREAS TO BE SPRAYED – Santa Paula – Thursday, Dec. 19, 5:30 – 7 p.m. Residents of areas in and around Santa Paula may have received a notice in the mail from the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) that “treatment” for the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) is planned for their neighborhood. The CDFA encourages the public to participate because the disease spread by the ACP can be extremely hazardous to citrus, residential and commercial, and eradication efforts are more effective when there is more participation in treatment programs.
The notices do not include information about an option to opt-out of the spraying. Officials with CDFA have confirmed the program is voluntary and property owners can opt-out by calling 800-491-1899.
The open house meeting will not include a formal presentation but staff of CDFA will be on hand to answer questions from residents about the program. Blanchard Community Library, Classroom 2, 119 North 8th Street, Santa Paula.
