The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge #2477 hosted a Flag Day Ceremony on Sunday, June 9, assisted by the Boy Scouts from Troop #754 and Pack #3763. One ritual performed included a flag retirement ceremony, which includes words of honor by those in attendance followed by respectfully burning the flag. In attendance was veteran Austin Chaffee, who works for Congresswoman Julia Brownley, D-Westlake Village. Exalted Ruler Dan Hoffman and the guests in attendance watched as the flag was retired for Chaffee’s fellow veterans and those who “gave so much that we have the freedom to retire the majestic stars and stripes with dignity.”
