Children of all ages with autism, hearing impairments or other special needs lined up to meet Santa Claus at a special meet-and-greet designed specifically to address their needs. The visit, on Monday, Nov. 28, was sans crowds, loud music and bright lights, things that could upset the children and are rampant in most other Santa Claus visits.
The Collection at RiverPark hosted the event amidst its month-long Santa visits, replete with a Santa Claus house and Santa’s little helpers, the elves. Mr. Claus greeted children and addressed their various needs, such as using American Sign Language.
“All children deserve the opportunity to celebrate the holidays in a way they feel safe and secure,” said Stefanie Muegel, marketing manager for The Collection. The visits were by appointment only and will run through the holiday season.
