Earth Day event at McGrath State Beach: April 12
Friends of Channel Coast State Parks, the nonprofit cooperating association that serves the Channel Coast district of the California State Parks, will join Ventura County Supervisor John Zaragoza (District 5) and SoCal Gas to host a volunteer event in honor of Earth Day at McGrath State Beach on Saturday, April 12. Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate, and groups are especially welcome. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. on April 12, with the event kickoff at 9 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to wear layers, a hat and sunscreen, and to bring their own work gloves and gardening tools (clearly labeled). Lunch, water, coffee and snacks will be provided for all volunteers, as well as a free day-use pass to any of the Channel Coast State Parks good for the rest of the weekend, and another small gift from Friends of Channel Coast State Parks. Join the fight against osteoporosis: April 29
Instructor training for the RSVP Bone Builders osteoporosis exercise and education classes will be held on Tuesday, April 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Oxnard. Instructors are needed in Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura. No experience necessary. Must be 55 years of age or older and be willing to make a six-month commitment to teach with the program. Rancho Camulos Museum: May 3
Spend a morning at beautiful and historic Rancho Camulos Museum on May 3 from 10 a.m. to noon., and learn about the history of Rancho Camulos, its origins as a Mexican land grant and various volunteer opportunities available at the museum. Tutor at Ventura Youth Correctional Facility
Tutor an English-speaking young people at Ventura Youth Correctional Facility (VYCF) in Camarillo. Lessons may range from reading skills to GED preparation. Free materials and training provided.
