’Tis the season to be jolly or so the song goes. But based on recent anti-Christmas actions taken by atheists and leftists, jolliness is far from the Christmas season. Most Decembers are rather boring for news outfits. Congress is packing up. People are busy beyond belief, surveying malls and outlets for friends and family. Life just changes. Unless you are on the left. Then you stay angry. Really angry. And you stay angry about all the fun people are trying to have. Atheists and the left have become modern Scrooges concerning Christmas. They have been shutting down plays and concerts, and one group is trying to take away a Christmas tree from a group of senior citizens. So, might I ask, when did the left get so angry?

All across the country, numerous people and organizations have been bullying others into stopping their Christmas fun. In Honolulu, Hawaii, Mitch Kahle, founder of the Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of State and Church, has forced the Moanalua High School orchestra to stop its annual Christmas concert for charity because he is offended.

“The issue here is an entanglement between a public school and a Christian church,” said Kahle. “And one of the things about the Constitution is that it prohibits the involvement of public schools and churches.”

Please point to that line in the Constitution. Oh, wait. It’s not there. In fact, it is so not there that the White House has been putting up Christmas trees for years.

This act of narcissism is quite startling, considering that the orchestra has raised more than $200,000 for the poor in Africa over the past six years. In fact, this year’s concert had already sold 600 tickets and was ready to donate another $30,000. But alas, Scrooge struck just in time.

Mr. Kahle, may I ask why you hate the children in Africa so much that you’d rather they not get food or supplies so that you don’t have to hear about a Christmas concert you never were going to attend? If the left can claim racism fuels the fire against Barack Obama, why can’t I say racism fuels the fire of Mr. Kahle? Am I being disingenuous here?

Meanwhile, in Little Rock, Ark., another show is being challenged. This time Snoopy has been put to sleep. The Arkansas Society of Free Thinkers has stopped a group of first- and second-grade students from seeing a production of A Charlie Brown Christmas because they, too, believe it violates a separation of church and state. Yep. They hate Snoopy.

According to the CBS affiliate reporting the story, because one parent complained, no one will get to leave school and have a fun field trip. How ironic that a group that calls itself one of “free thinkers” is so far from that.

Maybe the saddest story of all is in Los Angeles County, where a group of senior citizens is being forced to take down its apartment’s Christmas tree because, according to the company in charge, it is a religious symbol.

“For some folks, this is the only Christmas tree they’ll have all season,” resident Robert Troudeau said. “There are people overseas fighting for our freedoms and dying, and we’re here fighting over things like this. It’s a shame.”

The Daily News reported that resident Frances Schaeffer, who is Jewish, said she doesn’t understand the property management company’s stance.

“This tree is a symbol of reverence that we can all enjoy regardless of our religious beliefs,” she said.

She’s not the only one upset.

“We’re all angry. We want that tree,” said Fern Scheel, who has lived at The Willows senior apartment complex for two years. “Where’s our freedom? This is ridiculous.”

Please remind me again. When did the left get so angry?
