The freshmen line-up
Approximately 550 freshmen and transfer students from Cal Lutheran University’s You Got Served program dispersed into the arundo jungle of the Ventura River bottom to pick up trash from more than 20 homeless camps in the 5th annual river clean-up on Monday, Aug. 31. Up to 100 homeless people live in encampments alongside the river year round.
No place like home
Everything in this homeless “living room,” which includes a cushionless couch, a dismantled bike and piles of clothing, will be picked up and discarded in the annual river bottom clean-up. The homeless living in the various encampments were vacated for the day.
