Five of the best high-school jazz musicians in Southern California will have a chance to win cash prizes and the extraordinary opportunity to jam with Tito Puente Jr. by entering the Ventura Music Festival's 7th Annual Student Jazz Competition. The first place winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $500 and an appearance onstage with Tito Puente Jr. at the Ventura Music Festival Latin Jazz Concert on February 16. Second place wins $250; third place $100. Students must register for the contest Deadline for entry submissions is January 2, but the first five entries received before December 1 will get free pizza and soda during the competition. The Jazz Competition featuring the winning students will be held at Zoey's Cafe in Ventura on January 13, and will showcase student musicians from all over Southern California, backed by drummer Charles Levin's Coda jazz trio. |
